Search Engine Result Page is the page served to users by a web search engines in response to a keyword query by a searcher.

SERP features:  

SERP features are the different elements and features on Google’s Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) that provide helpful information to the user without clicking on a result.SERP features include:  

  • Rich Snippets: Add a visual information to an existing result  
  • Paid Results: Results that bought by bidding on keywords (e.g., AdWords or Google Shopping)
  • Universal Results It is also called blended search or enhanced search refer to the integration of additional information to organic results i.e images results, video, maps
  • Knowledge Graph data which enhance its search engine’s search results as panels or boxes gathered from a wide variety of source (e.g., weather, Celebrity Knowledge Panel)

Advertising & Paid Results

Adwords Ads (Top)

Description

The AdWords ads appears at the top of the SERP and above the organic results. Each ad appears with a colored [Ad] label next to it. It ranges from one to three results. Paid Ad results are becoming much richer and come with photos and site links

Description

Paid Shopping results or Product Listing Ads (PLAs) appears horizontally with rich information, such as images, store name  and pricing and more  on the top of the SERP. These ads are designed for retailer to promote their products online.

List Carousel

Description

Google shows carousel results when  a visitor search queries those starting with “best” or “top. Usually for those queries visitor is searching for a selection of options. Google takes you to a new SERP page after clicking on any of the carousel option.

Carousel Table

Description

The Table carousel  also provides multiple options in response to information queries only. Table carousel are bigger than the listing carousel and displays more options for one slide

Answer Box

Description

Google launched Answer box feature to provide accurate answers the searcher immediately without leaving the SERP. This features has a bunch of versions, but they appears as a grat- outlined box at the top left of the SERP.  For Example, You can see appropriate example of Answer box while searching “Whats the time now”.  

The info for Answer box is parsed from Google’s knowledge database so you won’t find any link there.There is the special “Feedback” button is placed under the Answer box, if the searcher disagrees with the info provided by Google

Knowledge Graph General

Description

Knowledge graph (general) provides a detailed information about the famous person, book, movie and many other types of things.  

A primary source of Knowledge graph is Wikipedia to parse the main information about the object. It also briefly answers the question “what is this?” or “who is this?”, Google knowledge graph could also include some additional info (like quotes, artworks for painters, books for writers, etc.) social media profiles, and “People also search” block.

Knowledge Graph (Local)

Description

This  SERP feature is appears in response to local brand queries like cinemas, restaurants, coffee shops etc and when the searcher is not looking for the general information about the business ( CEO, income). This feature shows more related data like location, open hours, or reviews. Local knowledge graph display only for single places, not branches or chains.

Description

This SERP element occurs when to Google’s understanding, the searcher’s query  is ambiguous and wants to provide options Google usually display this SERP’s element  after the Local knowledge graph feature.

In the freak SERP example, we searched for “World War” and Google brought up options for World War 2 and  Word War. Clicking on any of these links triggers a new search.

Description

Local Knowledge Panel: This SERP’s element does not appear on the Google #1 position, but they seem to be common on higher authority sites. These feature are blent with local listing and map pin. Clicking on this link trigger you to the knowledge Graph Panel

Description

This SERP’s feature appears when the person is looking for local establishment like places to eat or to buy furniture. Google display the local pack feature with map and three listings.  

 

This SERP element more commonly appears at the top of the Google SERP but may be appear at the bottom as well. If you click on the “More places” Google takes the searcher to the Google Map tab, where searcher can find more listing with additional info (open hours, reviews, images)

Description

Recently, video results are integrated into SERP, with the exception that they show a thumbnail of the video. Video results can appear at any place in the SERP.

In response to search queries that Google understands are related to images, Images block is appears. The standard image results appears as a horizontal list of different images in the left-hand column. It isn’t pinned and can appear anywhere between organic results.

The title above this images is clickable and tied up directly to Google images search Google has a different algorithm for images ranking, which is completely different to organic search.

Description

Description

This SERP feature launched in August 2013. In this feature Google shows set of three articles with thumbnails.  These links come from major publications like The New York Times and can be months or even years old as unlike news results, these links are not updated.

Description

Google sometimes displays organic #1 organic listing with expanded site links, anywhere from one to six, depending on the website.  If a result has site-link, it’s a 7-result SERP.  Google is working on 10 packs site links. At this Google SERP block, Google lists questions it believes are relative to searcher query. By clicking on any question from the list,  Google shows the brief answer and the link to the webpage where the searcher can see the answer. This element is connected to another Featured snippet.
